When Love Looks Like Less Thinking: Easy Avocado Brownies for Busy Women
Valentine’s Day has a habit of asking for more.
More planning.
More effort.
More emotional energy.
And if you are already carrying a full mental load, it can quietly become just another thing to manage.
This is your reminder that love does not have to be elaborate to be meaningful.
Sometimes love looks like feeding yourself well, with minimal effort, no guilt, and no second-guessing. When decision fatigue hits, these avocado brownies are what I reach for.
They take 20 minutes, use one bowl, and remove the need to think any further. Because being high-achieving does not mean you need to earn care through effort.
These brownies were not created for Valentine’s Day. They were created for real life.
I started making them when my toddler discovered chocolate and cake and suddenly avocado was completely unacceptable. One day it was fine. The next day it was not.
Instead of negotiating, overthinking nutrition, or trying to “fix” the situation, I chose something simple. Familiar. Comforting. And quietly nourishing.
I kept making them because they worked for me too.
They are rich, fudgy, and satisfying. No complicated swaps. No long ingredient lists. Just a recipe that supports you when your brain is already full.
Valentine’s Day does not need to be loud or performative.
It does not need to involve restriction, overindulgence, or pressure to get it “right”. And it definitely does not need to become another place where women feel they should be doing more.
If you are someone who carries responsibility well, you are probably very good at pushing through.
But food does not need to be another place you prove discipline.
Sometimes the most supportive choice is choosing something that is:
Quick
Easy
Enjoyable
Good enough
That is not lowering the bar. That is protecting your energy.
These brownies are naturally rich, lightly sweet, and come together in one bowl.
1 ripe avocado, mashed
1/2 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (or chocolate protein powder)
1/2 cup almond flour (or all-purpose flour)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a baking tin.
2. In a large bowl, mash the avocado until smooth.
3. Add the coconut sugar, honey or maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk until creamy and well combined.
4. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Fold gently until a thick, smooth batter forms.
5. Stir in the chocolate chips if using.
6. Spoon the batter into the prepared tin and smooth the top.
7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the tops are set and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
8. Cool in the tin for five minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
Prep time: 10 minutes 👩🍳
Bake time: 12 to 15 minutes ⏲️
Total time: around 25 minutes 🍰
These are ideal for:
A quiet Valentine’s evening at home
An afternoon energy dip
After dinner when you want something sweet without overthinking it
Feeding yourself and your family without separate meals
They also store well in the fridge, which means fewer decisions tomorrow.
High-achieving women are often taught that care comes after productivity.
👉 After the work is done.
👉 After everyone else is looked after.
👉 After enough effort has been made.
But sustainability comes from simplicity, not constant striving.
Sometimes the strongest choice is choosing the option that supports your nervous system, not challenges it.
These brownies are not about being “healthy enough”.
They are about being kind enough to yourself to stop overthinking one small thing.
If you make them this Valentine’s Day, let them be easy. Let them be enough. And let that be a quiet act of care. 💝
If you’re tired of overthinking food, training, and how to fit it all into real life, you’re not alone.
